Abu Dhabi currency is in fact known as the United Arab Emirates Dirham. (AED) There are 100 fils in one Dirham. The UAE Dirham is closely linked to the US Dollar.

There are Dirham notes in the following denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000. Coins can be found in the following denominations: 1 AED, 50 fils, 25 fils, 10 fils and 5 fils.

Abu Dhabi currency offices can be found at all major banks, hotels and at the airport of Abu Dhabi. Nearly all hotels, restaurants and stores in Abu Dhabi accept major credit cards such as Amex, Visa Card, Master Card, JBC and Diners Club.

If you are planning to travel with travel cheques then we strongly advice you to bring along travel cheques in GBP, Euro or USD currency as it can be difficult to cash in a travelers cheque from less widely used currencies.

Banking hours in Abu Dhabi are Saturday through Thursday from 08:00 until 13:00.
